The history of Matcha tea: the closely interrelated tradition of Matcha tea with Buddhism dates back to the 6th century in China. Buddhist monks applied the tea leaves medically because of their healing effects and its exceptional strength. Typical for the East Asian medicine was to dry tea leaves and ground it to a fine powder. It was in the 12th century when the buddhist monk Eisai brought the drink to Japan and ensured there the dissemination of tea culture.
